Two new resources for oral historians have recently been released in Australia. While they have been developed for Australian oral historians, they each contain a wealth of information relevant to oral historians more broadly. They are:
- The sixth edition of Beth Robertson’s Oral History Handbook has been released – https://oralhistoryaustralia.org.au/news/new-handbook-available/
- Oral History Victoria (OHV) has released a free, community history online guide featuring six training modules – https://oralhistoryvictoria.org.au/news/community-oral-history-guide/.
The Oral History Handbook has long been the go-to guide for Australian oral historians and hasn’t been in print for a few years. The new edition, published under the auspices of Oral History Australia, follows a substantial rewrite and update.
The OHV online guide is designed for community history organisations and will underpin a number of training workshops, including several online. The first of these is an online training course, ‘Oral History for the Future: Preservation and Accessibility’, to be conducted on 13 March 2026. This advanced course is for anyone holding or creating oral history interviews outside of major libraries and archives, including community projects and local history societies. Bookings are now open.
