For submissions that are primarily text based, articles should be no shorter than 5 pages\/2,500 words and no longer than 20 pages\/10,000 words. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For non-text based content, which we are beginning to explore as of 2022, content length will need to be discussed on a case-by-case basis with the editors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Articles should follow the guidelines below. Submissions should be emailed to journal@ioha.org with the subject line JOURNAL SUBMISSION.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Formatting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Main Body<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Articles should be prepared according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagomanualofstyle.org\/home.html\"><em>The Chicago Manual of Style<\/em><\/a>.<\/li><li>All margins (left, right, top, bottom) should be 1 inch (2.5 cm)<\/li><li>Use 12 pt. Times New Roman font for the main body<\/li><li>Set off long quotations, theorems, propositions, special remarks, etc. from the surrounding text by additional space above and below.<\/li><li>Do not include a title page<\/li><li>Do not indent first line of paragraphs<\/li><li>Do not include page numbers, headers or footers<\/li><li>Use footnotes and not endnotes<\/li><li>Include a References page at the end<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Headings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Distinguish headings and subheadings from the main body text with spaces<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tables, Figures, Images<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>All tables and figures must fit within 1-inch margins on all sides (left, right, top, and bottom) in both portrait and landscape view.<\/li><li>In no case should tables or figures be in a separate document or file.<\/li><li>Refer to the latest edition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagomanualofstyle.org\/home.html\"><em>The Chicago Manual of Style<\/em><\/a> on \u201cIllustrations and Tables\u201d for additional guidance regarding placement, numbering, captions, credit lines, etc.<\/li><li>Images are accepted, but author-contributors are responsible for security rights and permissions, and must provide the correct attribution\/credit statements.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Footnotes and References<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>All references should be complete and formatted according to the note and bibliography system of source citation in the latest edition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagomanualofstyle.org\/home.html\"><em>The Chicago Manual of Style<\/em><\/a>.<\/li><li>Footnotes should appear at the bottom of the page on which they are referenced rather than at the end of the paper.<\/li><li>Note numbers should begin with \u201c1\u201d and follow consecutively throughout the text.<\/li><li>Footnote numbers in the text must follow, rather than precede, punctuation.<\/li><li>Use 10 pt. Times New Roman font for footnotes.<\/li><li>Single space footnotes, and include a footnote separator rule (line).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Translations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The all-volunteer editorial board of IOHA\u2019s <em>Words and Silences<\/em> welcomes authors to submit their own translations (English to Spanish, Spanish to English) of the *final* revised submission.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, and in the spirit of fostering an inclusive, oral history global network, we are open to receiving and publishing content in contributors\u2019 home\/preferred language, if that language is not English or Spanish. Although we may not have the resources to provide editing or translation services, we ask that submissions follow the above guidelines and we are willing to work with you, and that author-contributors provide a version in either English or Spanish. This collaboration will be considered on a case-by-case basis, acknowledging our limited resources.
